Evacustes Arthur Phipson

Evacustes Arthur Phipson is an Impressionism artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

A British watercolor artist working in the late 1800s, Phipson filled small sheets with quiet views around London and Middlesex. His Nevilles Court is a small, precise street scene with brick walls and arched doorways reduced to their simplest shapes. He painted the same corner in different lights, and the 1885 Southall shows a distant church spire catching the last sun above terraced houses. His pencil lines are crisp, his washes lean and even. Look next at Southall to see how he balanced detail and space on a single sheet.
