Artist

John Miers

John Miers is a Neoclassicism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Rijksmuseum.

John Miers made plaster portraits of British and South American sitters in the early 1800s. In 1806 he cast a life-size bust of Manuel Belgrano, the Argentine revolutionary, which still stands in Buenos Aires. His workshop in Soho turned out crisp, white likenesses for export to Lima and Rio. Tap any of those busts to see how a single block of plaster could carry a politician’s coat buttons and a cause.
