Daniil Gounaridis

Daniil Gounaridis is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Metropolitan Organisation of Museums of Visual Arts of Thessaloniki – MOMus.

Daniil Gounaridis left Russia as a young man and spent most of his life in Paris, where he taught himself to paint by copying the old masters in the Louvre. He never gave his paintings titles, just numbered them, and preferred to work at night when the city was quiet. His 1987 *Untitled (from the series Imaginary Landscapes and Still Lifes)* swirls together faded greens and bruised purples that feel like memories you can’t quite place. Stroll past it on a screen and you might think you’ve seen the scene before—somewhere between a dream and a half-remembered street.
