Habib Mohammadi

Iranian, b. 1904

Habib Mohammadi is an Iranian Neo Expressionism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art. Habib Mohammadi was born in Lahijan.

Habib Mohammadi kept a studio above a clock repair shop in Tehran, where he’d paint with one eye on his watch and one on the light slanting through the high window. His *Portrait of Jalil Ziapour* (1955) catches the artist Ziapour mid-smile, paintbrush in hand, as if he’s about to dip it back in turpentine. Look for the loose brushstrokes on the jacket—Mohammadi painted it wet-on-wet so the colors blur just enough to feel alive.
