A late-19th-century artist known only as E. Espagna filled folded fans with small painted scenes. In Eventail plié (1886) you can spot lace collars and flower-strewn doorsteps—quiet glimpses of drawing rooms and back alleys in the Paris suburbs. The brushwork is light and the colors stay close to mauve and dusty rose, as though the whole scene were lit by gas lamps behind thin curtains. Tap Eventail plié to see how Espagna turned a folding object into a pocket-sized gallery.
