Maximilian von Geer

Maximilian von Geer is a Rococo painting artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Bavarian State Painting Collections.

German painter Maximilian von Geer left us mainly unsigned church ceilings and civic murals from the 1730s–40s. His surviving work in this set includes the boldly colored Saint Nepomuk Above the Charles Bridge (1741), where saints hover above the Vltava’s water in swirling robes and gilded halos. These ceiling frescoes belong to the late Baroque tradition, where drama and detail were meant to lift the viewer’s gaze heavenward. Tap the Charles Bridge scene to step into Prague’s skyline of the 1740s.
