Artist
Levin Elias
Levin Elias is a Rococo painting artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Statens Museum for Kunst.
Levin Elias spent his life painting in Copenhagen’s sunlit attics, where he turned the city’s stray cats and neighbors’ kids into his favorite subjects. He once spent a whole winter sketching a single girl’s face until he got it right—he’d erase and redo the same mouth 20 times before calling it done. His portraits feel alive because he painted them in the rooms where they lived, letting the daylight do half the work. Look for *Portræt af en lille pige* in the corner of the Royal Danish Collection, where it watches the hallway like a shy guardian.
