Artist

E. Macleith

E. Macleith is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Printmaker active around 1809, E. Macleith left behind one dated sheet in the H. Beard collection: a late-November/early-December view of London’s Thames riverfront under a cold gray sky. The print captures barges laden with coal and timber, their details picked out in crisp linework, while factory chimneys rise behind. Look closely and you’ll spot the crane at Custom House wharf and the spire of St Paul’s across the water. Next, tap into the Beard collection’s 1809 London scenes to see how the city’s river trade looked from the press.
