Ellys, L

Ellys, L is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

L Elizy, known as L Ellys in the trade, kept a ledger of every print she bought or traded—her 1813 diary records a foxed Rembrandt aftercare sheet swapped for a bag of ginger biscuits. She liked the edges where ink bled, the accidental ghosts that showed up once the paper was dampened. Look at her print of H Beard’s full-length self-portrait; the collar’s line wavers like a nervous pulse—proof that plates age, too.
