Artist

William Clerihew

William Clerihew is a British Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

This British watercolor painter worked in the 1850s and left small, delicate scenes of everyday places. In 1851 he painted the old fountain at Balbec, a crumbling stone structure surrounded by greenery, its basin catching light and shadow. His brush kept a tight focus on the architecture and the quiet mood of the spot, leaving the wider landscape vague. Step next to the same serene fountain in his Fountain at Balbec.
