Franz Defregger

Franz Defregger is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Museum of Art of Romania.

Franz Defregger grew up speaking Tyrolean German on a farm before running off to Munich to paint. His studio sat above a butcher shop, so he sketched cow carcasses for muscle studies. He loved cowbells, even wore one on his belt to feel anchored to the mountains. That bell shows up in “Cap de copil,” where a Tyrolean child grips the rope, tiny against the Alpine glow. Drop into Gallery Tiles and zoom on that painting—it’s the doorstep to Defregger’s world of yodeling shadows and sunlit snow.
