Artist

Albert Jourdain

Albert Jourdain is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Calouste Gulbenkian Museum.

A quiet figure in early 20th-century French art, Albert Jourdain painted small, careful still lifes and streetscapes of provincial towns near Paris. His brush moved slowly over modest subjects—wine bottles on wooden tables, shutters on shuttered houses, the long shadows of late afternoon. Though his name appears in Paris salons of 1910, only one work survives in public records, titled “Nature morte aux pommes et au pain.” Look for the soft light on the crust and the way the fruit sits just beyond the cloth’s edge. Tap “Nature morte aux pommes et au pain” to see it up close.
