Gu Tianzh

Gu Tianzh is a Ming dynasty painting artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Cleveland Museum of Art.

Gu Tianzh painted landscapes in the crisp style of the Yuan master Huang Gongwang, who’d wandered the misty hills of the Lake Tai region centuries earlier. In the late 1640s he inked Landscape in the Style of Huang Gongwang, copying those jagged peaks and layered pines with a steady hand. The scroll folds like a quiet walk through southern China, where every rock and tree feels deliberate. Tap Landscape in the Style of Huang Gongwang to see how one artist carried another’s brushwork forward.
