Artist

Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazowsky

Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazowsky is an Impressionism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Museum of Art of Romania.

Ivan Aivazowsky painted the sea before it became a cliché. The 1886 canvas *Naufragiul* shows a storm-tossed hull caught between waves and dusk, hull lights flaring like dying stars. He painted storms, calm horizons, and moonlit sails over and over, turning the Black Sea into a stage for light and foam. Swipe left to stand on that deck with him, or tap the waves in *The Bay of Naples at Sunset* to feel how he made seawater glow.
