James Henry FRIBA Swan

James Henry FRIBA Swan is an Arts and Crafts movement artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

English watercolourist of the early 20th century, James Henry FRIBA Swan painted quiet domestic scenes in transparent washes. His 1928 sheet, The Back Garden, shows a sunlit lawn bordered by hollyhocks and a low brick wall, with a rickety wooden gate left ajar. Swan’s brush laid down pale greens and sky blues so thin you can almost smell the wet paper. Tap The Back Garden to step inside that quiet afternoon.
