This Brussels painter kept popping up in royal ledgers because he’d bill the court twice for one painting—once as the artist, once as the “stabilizer of pigments.” His trick worked until someone noticed the same brushstrokes in both entries. He’s the guy who gave Baroque interiors a second life as stage sets; look for his mirrored palace halls and shooting fountains in Sală cu coloane and its twin, Fântâna arteziană cu obeliscuri, both from 1725. Tap either canvas and you’ll see how he framed light like a director, long before cinema existed.
