Artist

Philip Sheppard

Philip Sheppard is a British Romanticism artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Philip Sheppard painted quiet English landscapes in watercolour during the mid-1800s, when artists favoured sketching outdoors before cameras arrived. In 1857 he recorded The bridge at Kirby Lonsdale, showing stone arches over the River Lune, and in 1860 he captured Coast scene, Polpeer, Cornwall, with gentle waves and low cliffs. His brushwork stays close to what he saw, letting the paper show through for light. Tap any edge of the image to see The bridge at Kirby Lonsdale again.
