Artist
Chambers
Chambers is a Romanticism artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.
Fleet Street’s river views weren’t just postcards in the early 1800s—this anonymous watercolorist put them on paper. One sheet, “Seascape,” shows a choppy Thames under a wind-whipped sky, the chop houses and church spires tiny in the distance. Down the street, the artist also drew plans for St Mary’s Church in St Marylebone, ink lines mapping out fan vaulting and box pews. The early 1770s tower designs feel as precise as the watercolours are breezy. Slide over to the church porch and step inside Chambers’ measured lines.
