Artist
Magdalena Ross
Magdalena Ross is a British Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.
Magdalena Ross painted delicate watercolors of British sitters in the 1840s, including a portrait of Captain Henry Robert Cole. The work shows Cole in full naval uniform against a plain background, the folds of his coat picked out in muted greens and golds. Ross often chose single-figure compositions, focusing tightly on the sitter’s face and hands. You can trace the way light catches the lace at Cole’s cuff.
