Artist

Samuel Cotes

Samuel Cotes is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Samuel Cotes made prints in late 18th-century London. On 25 June 1771 he published the *H Beard Print Collection*, a set of engraved portraits and scenes that circulated across the city’s print-shops near Covent Garden. The sheets were small, affordable sheets meant to be clipped and pasted into albums or pinned on walls. Look for the way he lined up sitters’ faces side by side so collectors could compare profiles like playing cards.
