Artist

Dugarden

Dugarden is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Historical & Ethnological Society of Greece.

He painted one portrait and then vanished. Dugarden’s single known work, a 1790s Greek merchant’s likeness in stiff black coat and white cravat, stares back like a man who just remembered an urgent errand. Whether he quit or was lost to time we’ll never know, but that one canvas—Prosopographia tou Spyridonos Mavrogeni—lets us walk straight into an 18th-century Cretan sitting room without the museum velvet rope.
