J. Taylor

J. Taylor is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

J. Taylor spent years lurking in the shadows of London’s print shops, turning out cheap, funny broadsheets for tavern-goers who wanted a laugh between drinks. No one knows if J. Taylor was one person or many—like a print run that never credits the pressman—but the prints that survive are packed with mischief. Behind the crude jokes and exaggerated faces hides a sharp eye for the absurd in everyday life. Find one of their 1826 H Beard prints and you’ll see why these little sheets feel like the Twitter memes of Regency England.
