Obaku Taihō

Obaku Taihō is a Rococo painting artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Obaku Taihō spent his life roaming Kyoto’s misty hills with a scroll tucked under one arm and a bamboo brush in the other, sketching ink-storms on the spot before the clouds settled. You’ll spot his trick: he painted the gaps between the stalks darker than the stalks themselves, making the whole grove feel alive. Try finding Bamboo in Moonlight on your screen—zoom in and watch how one thin stroke turns moonlight into leaf.
