Á. Kovács treated portrait prints like handwritten letters—each line a sentence, each shadow a pause. You’ll find this one of Traian Doda, a Romanian general, inked and numbered as if he’d just stepped out of the registrar’s office. His crisp uniform edges fold into the paper’s grain like a crease in a dress uniform left on a chair. Look for the tiny embossed seal in the corner; it’s the artist’s signature without a flourish.
