Sir David Muirhead Bone

Sir David Muirhead Bone is an Impressionism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Bone kept a stub of pencil behind each ear and sketched dockside cranes the way other men chew pencils during meetings. In 1929 he slipped into Constantinople with a passport full of smudged stamps and spent weeks drawing Yeni Cami’s tiled domes at dawn, when the call to prayer bounced off the Golden Horn and nobody asked why a Scotsman was up at 4 a.m. with watercolours. Grab *Yeni Cami, Constantinople* on Gallery Tiles and you’ll see the mosque rendered in splashes of cobalt that taste like salt and incense.
