Thomas Leeson Scrase Senior Rowbotham

Thomas Leeson Scrase Senior Rowbotham is a British Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Thomas Leeson Scrase Senior Rowbotham (yes, that’s one name) spent the 1820s tramping the Welsh hills with a pocket sketchbook and a pocketful of tea. He liked painting the exact moment the light turns the slate-gray lakes to pewter, before the rain starts again. He belongs in Gallery Tiles because you can almost taste the damp air in “Capel Curig, North Wales” (1825)—tap the tile, zoom in, and you’ll see the tiny cloud shadows racing across the paper.
