Abstract Drawing

Franz Bernheimer is an artist. 3 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Franz Bernheimer kept a shoebox of receipts taped to the back of every drawing he finished, noting the date and time like a baker logging batches. Most of his work is small, black-and-white abstract lines that look like scribbled instructions or shorthand for something never meant to be read. His 1988 Abstract Drawing is the tightest of the bunch: a single sheet where the marks crowd into a corner like people who’ve just realized the last train left.
