Edouard-Marcel Sandoz
Edouard-Marcel Sandoz is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.
Edouard-Marcel Sandoz spent his days sketching the animals that wandered through his Paris studio, filling the space with drawings of dogs wearing hats and cats in top hats. He snapped photos too, freezing a monkey’s sideways glance or a parrot’s tilted head mid-chirp. His lens caught creatures caught between play and performance, as if they knew they were on camera. Hunt down his 1920 photograph *Monkey in a Top Hat* and you’ll see what he meant—animals dressed for the part, yet still very much themselves.
