Artist

Johann Otmar

Johann Otmar is a Baroque artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Cleveland Museum of Art.

This artist carved woodcuts in the 1600s, printing scenes of pens, pages, and scholars at work. One sheet shows Pelbart of Temesvár bent over a folio in a walled garden, inkwell balanced on a stone ledge. The lines are crisp, the light flat and even, like sunlight on a book laid open on a bench. Turn the page to find another woodcut where a quill nib hovers over fresh paper.
