Artist
Georgios Kourkouvelos
Georgios Kourkouvelos is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Athens School of Fine Arts.
Georgios Kourkouvelos liked to paint himself in a corner, literally—his 1993 Self Portrait has him wedged between two walls, eyes floating above his own shoulders. The trick isn’t the double-vision; he painted the background the same pale peach as his skin so the head feels like a mask slipped on too late. His work belongs in Gallery Tiles because that painting is the kind you can stare at while the person beside you walks on—try it at the Benaki Museum where it lives.
