Ivan Semenovitš Kulikov

Ivan Semenovitš Kulikov is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Finnish National Gallery.

Ivan Kulikov kept a small brush in his coat pocket for quick sketches of faces he spotted on the street—waiters, soldiers, anyone with a story to tell. He spent years painting official portraits, but his real obsession was the way light hit metal: the curve of a spoon, the glint of a helmet. Look up his *Kenraali Gonjetskin* (1903) to see how he turned a stiff uniform into something alive, like sunlight on wet paint.
