Artist

John Edge

John Edge is a British Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

John Edge painted quiet English towns in the early 1800s, recording them in watercolour. Harwich (ca. 1830s) shows the harbour’s salt-stiff rigging and low grey sky, lamps still unlit at dusk. Another sheet captures Whitby’s cobbled lanes, where fish-wives balance baskets on their heads. His work sits between topographical habit and early Romantic feeling for place. Tap Harwich to step inside the damp sea air of a working port.
