Ishbel McWhirter

b. 1927

Ishbel McWhirter is a Contemporary Abstract artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Ishbel McWhirter painted watercolors in the 1960s and 70s, often choosing subjects close to her heart. In 1964 she captured educator A. S. Neill in a crisp portrait, and seven years later she turned the Spanish village of Mojacar into a wash of sun-bleached reds and blues. Her loose, confident brushwork lets the paper show through, keeping the mood light and immediate. Try swiping to *A. S. Neill*—it’s the earliest piece in the set and a perfect window into her style.
