Artist

R. Lloyd

R. Lloyd is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Printmaker in early-19th-century Britain, R. Lloyd carved everyday scenes turned to humor with a sharp needle. A sheet titled "H Beard Print Collection" from May 1831 shows a bustling London street where a man in a top hat slips on a rogue potato while a drayman’s cart teeters behind him. Lloyd’s prints were small—roughly postcard size—meant for quick laughs in taverns and print shops. Look for tiny initials in the plate’s margin; that’s his signature. Tap to zoom into the potato, the hat, and the cart for the full joke.
