Artist

Batten

Batten is an Impressionism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

She drew at night by candlelight, her nib scratching on paper until her fingers ached. In the 1890s she sketched Hasan’s homecoming after years away, showing the moment he steps inside and his wife’s hands still clutching the teapot—no faces needed, just the tilt of his boot and the steam rising between them. Slide over to “Hasan rejoins his wife,” a single sheet that turns a private scene into something you can almost touch.
