Artist

Gerrit de Haen

Gerrit de Haen is a Dutch Golden Age artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Rijksmuseum.

This Dutch painter worked in the 17th century, when biblical scenes like St Jerome filled many canvases. His Saint Jerome, dated 1674, shows the hermit scholar in his study, skull in hand, lit by a single candle—typical of the quiet, careful mood of Dutch Golden Age religious art. His second version, simply titled St Jerome, repeats the same subject a few years earlier. If you like candlelit corners and folded robes, tap into Saint Jerome to see both versions side by side.
