John Moffat

John Moffat is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

John Moffat shaped Glasgow’s streets in the 1800s, prowling the city with a big wooden camera strapped to his back. He snapped every theatre, shopfront, and pub crowd—then sold the prints for tuppence so locals could stick him on their mantelpieces. His photo of Guy Little’s theatrical group, all ruffled collars and gas-lit drama, still hangs in the Scottish Theatre Archive. Want to see what Glasgow looked like when gaslight ruled?
