Artist

T. Sully

T. Sully is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Thomas Sully kept a pocket watch that ran backwards just to stay amused, and he painted faces so smooth you’d swear the sitters stepped out of a mirror. He loved painting actors in costume, but his real trick was making someone’s grandma look like she could step off a stage. If you’ve ever stood in front of a big family portrait at a historic house, chances are Sully painted it. Tap “H Beard Print Collection” to see how he turned theater lights into paint.
