Artist

Philippe Bernard

Philippe Bernard is a French Classical Baroque artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Groeningemuseum.

A French still-life painter from the late 1600s, Philippe Bernard filled dark backgrounds with gleaming objects. His 1677 *Oil on Canvas* shows silver plates catching candlelight, a glass decanter half-full of wine, and a peeled lemon next to a knife still holding its curl of rind. The sharp highlights and deep shadows make every surface feel solid enough to touch. See how he blurred the edge between polished metal and flickering reflection in *Still Life with Glassware*.
