Chauncy Townshend
Chauncy Townshend is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.
Chauncy Townshend liked rain clouds so much he moved to the Lake District and painted them. While his friends sketched grand ruins, he set up his easel by a small tarn just to watch the light slide across the water. One afternoon he stayed so long his boots filled with peat, but the painting he brought home still hangs in the Kendal museum. If you stand in front of Blea Tarn, Cumberland and tilt your head, the reflection of the sky almost disappears—proof that quiet places can hold the biggest surprises.
