David Jandi (Lederer)
David Jandi (Lederer) is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Unitarian Episcopate.
David Jandi’s hands were always stained with cobalt. He painted the same biblical scene, *Coborârea de pe cruce* (Descent from the Cross), at least twenty times, shifting only the light—sometimes a sickly dawn, sometimes the blue of a gas lamp. The figures never moved, but the shadows stretched like fingers across the canvas, as if time itself was being unspooled. Keep an eye out for the 1969 version in the National Art Museum of Romania; it’s the one where the ladder casts a shadow that looks almost like a question mark.
