Artist

Anthony Fielding

Anthony Fielding is a British Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Anthony Fielding spent years sketching crumbling abbeys in the North York Moors, always with a flask of cold tea and a pocket watch. He painted Rievaulx Abbey in 1839 not as a ruin but as a quiet stage set—light on the tracery, moss on the stones, the whole thing half-finished and perfectly still. If you stand in the abbey’s east window at five p.m. in late summer, you’ll see the same raking light he caught.
