Born in the Tyrolean Alps, Hans Defregger photographed mountain life in the late 1800s, trading the studio for villages and valleys. His lens caught farmers, hunters, and their rugged homes in crisp black-and-white plates—try *Untitled (Photograph)* to see a woman weaving by a wooden loom or a man mending a net at dusk. Slide over to the same bundle to trace the shadows on the same stone walls he captured.
