Artist
Jeannin Paris
Jeannin Paris is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.
Printmaker in the 19th-century Paris market, Jeannin Paris carved everyday scenes onto metal plates and pressed them onto paper. One surviving piece, H Beard Print Collection, shows a crowded Seine-side stall with baskets of fresh fish and a cat slipping through the legs of buyers. These prints were small, cheap, and sold loose in bookshops along Rue Saint-Jacques, where shoppers could flip through stacks for a few sous. Look next at the same collection for a view of a Paris street in winter, where carriages and pedestrians blur under low lamplight.
