James the elder Faed

James the elder Faed is an Impressionism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

James Faed carved vivid scenes straight from the Bible’s darker corners. In oil and print, he showed angels and demons half-hidden in rocky Judean wildernesses, candlelit cottages, and storm-lashed harbors, trading grand altarpieces for pocket-size moral tableaus. His 1877 print Satan Watching the Sleep of Christ in the Wilderness of Temptation locks the viewer inside a moonlit cave where the tempter lurks just beyond the glow of a sleeping Christ. Step closer to that single sheet and you’ll feel the weight of silence before the storm.
