Artist

Richard Duppa

Richard Duppa is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Richard Duppa spent his days sketching in the shadowy corners of London’s print shops, where he collected odd scraps of paper and stray jokes along with his engravings. His 1802 print *La Zingara* is a wiry, ink-heavy portrait of a fortune-teller that looks like it was drawn by candlelight. Find it in the British Museum’s prints and drawings room—it’s tucked next to Hogarth’s wilder street scenes.
