Artist

Fritz Behn

Fritz Behn is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Fritz Behn was a German sculptor who spent years in Kenya shaping wood and stone, then shipped the pieces back to Berlin only to carve them again—halfway around the world twice. He kept the rawness of the African teak visible, rough edges and all, as if the material’s journey was part of the story. See it for yourself in his untitled photograph where a lion’s head juts from the frame; tap the image to zoom in on the chisel marks that still smell faintly of acacia.
