Artist
Strickland
Strickland is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.
Strickland spent years printing London’s daily life in the early 1900s—posters for plays, menus for tea rooms, the notice outside the doctor’s office. One afternoon he carved a whole city block into a single sheet of wood, then inked it by hand like a stamp. Why? He hated the idea that art should only live inside frames. See it for yourself: look up the 1912 print that prints the whole Strand at once; the ink still smells faintly of ink and rain.
