Master Allegro

Italian

Master Allegro is an Italian Northern Renaissance artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Rijksmuseum.

This 15th-century Italian painter left us a single tempera panel still glowing in Italian churches: Worshipping the Christ Child (1500). Against a gold ground you’ll find Mary and the infant framed by quiet figures, their robes catching the same soft light that flickers over the real altar where the painting once hung. If you stand close enough, the gilded halos still read like a promise. Next tile: the same work before any later varnish darkened it.
