Austrian, b. 1401

Meister der Oswaldlegende is an Austrian Northern Renaissance artist. 4 works are cataloged here, principally at Kunsthistorisches Museum.

Austria’s late-15th-century oil painter, known only as Meister der Oswaldlegende, specialized in vivid scenes of St. Oswald. Two panels in the bundle show his hand: The Coronation of St. Oswald and Charity of St. Oswald, both dated 1482. The figures wear rich reds and blues against gilded backgrounds that still gleam. Tap Charity of St. Oswald to step into the scene and trace the saint’s gesture across the altarpiece.
